One for the Future: Xherdan Shaqiri

Xherdan Shaqiri is a young Swiss footballer who is set to cause quite a storm in the soccersphere. Born in Yugoslavia, the young pro signed his first professional contract at Basel in 2009, and has this year secured a move to Bayern Munich, which will take place in the summer, this lad is destined for great things, so what do you need to know about Xherdan Shaqiri?

Xherdan was born in Yugoslavia, and made his Basel debut aged just 17. He’s 20 now, and has won a string of trophies with the Swiss team. He has also represented Switzerland since under 17 level and currently plays for their first team, where he has already won 17 caps and scored 5 goals in spite of his youth.

At Basel, Shaqiri has made 84 appearances and notched 14 times. Not a bad tally for a young midfielder.

You might remember Xherdan from his stunning performance for Basel in the champions league group stages, and he made two superb assists when Basel upset group rivals Manchester United, and we all know what ended up happening there.

Bayern Munich opened their cheque book in February, and are rumoured to have parted with around €10 million for the young man. A snip if you ask me and a move that the likes of Man United and Arsenal will be kicking themselves for not making when this lad is worth five times that.

Watch out for this kid at Munich, where he’ll be nurtured into one of the best teams in the world and looks certain to become a great success. You definitely need to remember the name.
