Saturday Roundup

The season is drawing to a close, and we’re starting to see some funny old results, as well as some vital matches in the battle for places in the football league and premiership, as well as the battle for silverware.

In England’s top tier, Norwich City were thumped by a resurgent Man City, who beat them 6-1 at Carrow Road. Blackburn have slipped further into trouble as Swansea City thrashed them 3-0, QPR lost again, this time at the hands of West Brom, and Sunderland and Wolves played out a 0-0 bore draw.

In the FA Cup, Nikica Jelavic put Everton in the lead at Wembley, but Liverpool came back to win 2-1 in today’s semi final, they’ll meet the winners of tomorrow’s second semi-final.

The championship is hotting up nicely, the highlights of England’s second tier saw West Ham demolish Brighton 6-0, Ricardo Vaz Te scoring a hat-trick. Middlesborough and Cardiff both won to keep their playoff challenge alive, while at the bottom of the league, Portsmouth came back to beat Doncaster 4-3, relegating Doncaster but keeping Pompey’s faint hopes of staying up alive. Coventry and Bristol City both drew, it looks like it will be one of those two to take the final relegation spot.

In the lower leagues, Charlton clinched promotion back to the Championship, Bristol Rovers stuck Seven past Burton Albion and  Swindon won again, meaning it would take a 21 goal swing in goal difference for them not to get promoted automatically.
