Players Available on a Free Transfer 2012

As is often the case in modern football, there are loads of players available on a free transfer this summer, and plenty more who are due to be out of contract soon, and it doesn’t look like many of these are going to get deals. There’s enough freebie talent to make a decent team out of, we thought! So here it is folks, a premiership team made entirely out of free agents, Reading and Southampton take note!

GK – Craig Gordon – Sunderland paid a massive £9 million for the talented Scottish ‘keeper a few years back. This season his contract wasn’t renewed as he finds himself out of favour. Gordon is still only 29, which is young for a goalkeeper. Don’t be surprised if he makes a comeback in goal for someone in the top flight (Southampton?)

RB – Gretar Steinsson – The Iceland international is currently a free transfer after being released from relegated Bolton.

CB – Zak Whitbread – Has been linked with a string of Premier League clubs following his release from Norwich.

CB – Carlos Cuellar – The ex Villa man has already stated that he wants to stay in the Premier League after his release.

LB – Nicky Shorey – Remember when this guy was wearing an England shirt? Well he’s available for free this summer, and at 31 years old, surely has some legs left in him.

MF – Keith Andrews – Impressed on loan at Ipswich last year and has enjoyed Premiership spells with Blackburn and West Brom of late.

MF – Owen Hargreaves – Turned a few heads when he was snapped up by Man City last year, but perhaps would get a chance to rebuild his career at another Premier league club. One without Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri and Nigel De Jong and…

MF – Paul Scharner – The versatile and experienced Midfielder is a free agent having left West Brom this summer.

MF – Nigel Reo “Free-o” Coker – Available on a free having impressed at times at Bolton this season.

ATT – Michael Owen – The experienced striker is still only 32, and surely has another spell of goalscoring in him somewhere in the Premiership.

ATT – Didier Drogba – The man that just saved the Champions league for Chelsea is a freebie, but you might want a bit set aside for wages if you’re looking to sign this lad.

Bench: Brad Guzan (Villa), Adam Drury (Norwich), Danny Gabbidon (QPR), Emile Heskey (Villa), Alan Smith (Newcastle)
