Once in a while in the world of our glorious sport, an issue arises that puts on-the-pitch issues into perspective. Today the tragic news has broken that Eric Abidal, Barcelona’s French full-back, needs a liver transplant.

Aged just 32, Eric has made over 60 appearances for his native France and is a regular for Barcelona when fit. His illness was first announced back in 2011, and has been with met well-wishers on numerous social networks. Tributes and messages for the Frenchman will surely continue to flood in and help Eric through a tough time. Lets hope this is the beginning of the end of the struggle and Abidal can continue a career in Football afterwards.
